Skilled Sponsored (subclass 886)
This is a permanent visa for overseas students who have completed at least 2 years of course studies and obtained an Australian qualification in Australia and for holders of certain temporary visas with skills in demand in Australia.
The applicant must be sponsored by an eligible relative living in Australia.
Or
Nominated by a participating State or Territory government agency.
This permanent resident visa allows the candidate to remain in Australia indefinitely and also to enter and travel to Australia for five years from the date the visa is issued. On fulfilling the residency eligibility criteria the candidate and accompanying dependant/s are eligible for Australian citizenship.

Main applicant Eligibility
The applicants must hold one of the following visas when they apply:
- an overseas student or former overseas student
- a holder of a Skilled – Graduate (subclass 485) visa or
- Skilled – Recognised Graduate (subclass 476) visa
- a holder of a Trade Skills Training (subclass 471) visa
- Be under 45 years of age
- Have good English language skills
- Have skills and qualifications to nominate a 50 point or 60 point occupation listed on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL).
- Must have applied for a skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority for the applicant's nominated occupation.
- Must be sponsored by an eligible relative living in Australia or a State/Territory government.
- Meet the points test threshold of 100 points.
- Pass all health and character requirements.
Compliances
If nominated by a State or Territory government:
The candidate must remain in the State or Territory for a period of at least two years and keep the State or Territory government informed of changes in address details before and after arrival
If sponsored by a relative:
The relative sponsor is required to sign a sponsorship undertaking to provide accommodation and/or financial assistance as required to meet their relatives living needs during their first two years in Australia. The sponsor must also be in a position to provide any other support such as child care or to enable their relatives to attend English language classes.

Secondary applicant eligibility
Secondary applicants that may be included in a permanent or provisional visa application are spouse / interdependent partner / dependent child of main applicant or spouse or interdependent partner / dependent relative of main applicant or spouse.
In most cases secondary applicants will need to meet requirements of location, English language ability, health and character. These requirements may vary depending on the type of visa. Any applicant aged 18 years or over will have to sign an Australian values statement.
